Lelan McDougal founded HeadStart Sports in 2007. He has been a fixture in the basketball community and brings a lifetime of basketball experience. Lelan attended Etiwanda High School where he garnered many honors including All-Hacienda League, All-CIF, All-County, MVP of Riverside-San Bernardino Counties All-Star game and MVP of the Inland Valley All-Star game. After High School and Junior College, Lelan enrolled at UC Santa Barbara where he immediately made an impact by becoming the first Junior College transfer during the Jerry Pimm era to average double figures in scoring.
His career scoring average ranks third all-time and he was named to the All-Big West team. After his college career, Lelan played basketball professionally in France, Italy, Lebanon, Philippines, Venezuela, ABA, CBA and with the Phoenix Suns.
Lee McDougal has played and/or coached basketball at for more than 45 years at many different levels from beginners in elementary school to scholarship college players. His competitive playing days ended in the early 1980’s due to injuries. Lee played high school basketball at Centennial High School in Compton California, then his first year of college ball was at UC Riverside, followed by a year at Compton Community College then concluded his final two years back at UCR. While at UCR his teams finished atop the conference standings qualifying for regional and national post season tournaments each year. Lee was consistently an all-league/conference player in high school and throughout his college career culminating with Conference Player of Year honors following his senior season at UCR. Lee is a proud member of and inductee into the UC Riverside Athletic Hall of Fame.
Following his playing days Lee began teaching basketball and basketball fundamentals to his two young boys along with neighborhood children which grew into coaching a number of youth teams. From youth team coaching Lee coached many teen-aged teams and adult league teams throughout the region over the past twenty or so years. Lee spent two seasons (2001 and 2002) as a volunteer non-paid assistant basketball coach at Upland High School. Retired the past two years following 37 years of service in the public sector, Lee has the time and passion to resume coaching and teaching basketball.
LeSean McDougal has ten years of experience with calisthenics, cardiovascular, plyometric and strength training. He is Future Fit licensed and certified by NCCPT. LeSean attended Alta Loma High School and graduated from Rancho Cucamonga High School.
